What is an off-grid inverter?
An off-grid inverter creates AC power from a battery-based DC system without using the utility grid as its operating reference. It must support the connected loads, manage or coordinate battery charging, and handle motor or compressor surge within its specified limits.

Why ordinary grid-tied solar usually stops in an outage
The U.S. Department of Energy explains that solar panels alone generally depend on the grid and are designed to switch off when grid power is lost. Outage operation needs a properly configured inverter and storage system able to operate in an islanded mode. Product names alone do not prove this capability.
